About This Site

Who runs this site

Hi, I’m YUJI. I live in Sapporo, Hokkaido, in northern Japan, and I am 50 years old. I run this site on my own.

I am an ordinary local who is curious about Latin dance: salsa, bachata, and the social dance scene around them. I’m curious, not an instructor. On this site, I summarize what I have read and researched, in plain English, for people who are just starting to wonder about these dances.

What this site is (and is not)

Not affiliated with any dance studio or school. This is an informational site for beginners. It is not a dance studio, a school, or an event page, and it does not speak for any of them. I do not run classes, and nobody here can book you into one.

This site is This site is not
Plain-English notes on dance styles, music, and etiquette A dance studio, school, or class schedule
General tips on how to look for classes and socials A list of recommended studios, teachers, or events

Why this site is in English

Sapporo has residents from other countries and many international visitors. I wanted to write simple notes for people who read English: people from abroad who live in Hokkaido and want to try dancing in a new city, beginners anywhere who wonder how salsa and bachata are different, and anyone curious about everyday hobbies in Sapporo.

English is my second language. I write in plain, short sentences and check my writing carefully, but you may still find mistakes. If you notice an error, I will be happy to hear about it.

What I promise

  • No ads. This site has no advertising and no affiliate links. Nobody pays me to mention anything here.
  • No made-up stories. I do not write personal “my dance journey” stories. I write what I have researched, and I say so.
  • Careful history. Latin dances come from rich Afro-Caribbean and Latin American cultures. When I write about their history, I use careful words, because accounts differ, and I link to reliable sources such as cultural institutions and university scholars.
  • No names of studios, teachers, or events. I do not name or rank specific studios, teachers, shops, prices, or events. Information like that changes often, so please check each organizer’s own website or community page for the latest details.
  • No medical advice. If dancing causes pain or you have a health concern, please ask a qualified professional.
